Meeting for children and youth

Meeting for children and youth takes place during the Meeting for Worship from September to June, taking a summer break. Please check the calendar.

Students are a loved and valued part of our community! They meet with a pair of adults who lead an activity related to core Quaker values. Youngsters and teens alike join the Meeting for Worship for the end of our silent worship, joys and concerns, and announcements. They also have a chance to share what they explored in their meeting with the wider community.

Attend on Zoom

Meeting for Worship is held in a hybrid format a few time a month. Please let us know if you would like to receive Zoom invites.

“Friendly” advice for first-time visitors

When you arrive, please introduce yourself to a greeter who will make sure you and your children get oriented. You are encouraged to wear a name tag so we can get to know you by name.

Silence begins as Friends enter the meeting hall. Our chairs are arranged in three concentric rings – you may sit anywhere.

Silent worship takes practice in centering oneself, stilling the chattering of the mind, and waiting expectantly for the still, small voice of God. It often takes 10-15 minutes for the Meeting to settle into a truly quiet and contemplative space.

Often, though not always, Friends will rise to speak what God has placed on their hearts. After a message is given, it is important to allow time to ponder its meaning, letting the Spirit move through the assembly of Friends. Friends try to listen more than they speak, keep an open heart, seek the Spirit behind the words and hold the speaker in love.

Around 10:30 am, a Friend will rise to close the meeting. The meeting will be invited to share any joys or concerns as well as any thoughts that did not rise to the level of ministry. The children and youth will have an opportunity to share on their activity. Newcomers will be invited to introduce themselves if they wish.

You are also invited to stay for the second portion of our worship which begins around 11:00 and lasts for about an hour. Worship Sharing, which takes place a few time a month, is a time where small groups of Friends contemplate a query together. This is an especially good way for newcomers to learn about and participate in our community.
